Native Plant Walks

Join local expert Kristina Bezanson on a 30-minute guided tour of the native plants at Carolanne Farms Park and Turtle Lake.

Tours will depart at 1pm and 3pm.

Kristina is an Associate Professor of Horticulture at Tidewater Community College, in Chesapeake, Virginia.  She has been teaching a range of courses from Arboriculture, Plant Identification, Plant Pest Management, Landscape Construction, to Theory of Landscape Design since 2011. Ms. Bezanson serves as the Department Head of Horticulture, advising students, supervising staff and fellow faculty members. 

In addition to teaching, Kristina is the sole proprietor of a Horticulture business called, Garden & Forest Consulting, which primarily focuses on tree care and landscape maintenance practices on residential and commercial sites. 

Her background over the last 21 years is in Landscape Maintenance and Urban Forestry.  She was the City Arborist for the City of Virginia Beach before teaching at Tidewater Community College.  Ms. Bezanson has served as Past President for the Virginia Urban Forest Council, (Trees Virginia).

Kristina holds an MS in Horticulture from Virginia Teach and a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art. She is a current graduate student at The George Washington University in the Sustainable Landscapes program.  Her certifications include International Society of Arboriculture; Board Certified Master Arborist / Municipal Specialist, and a Qualified Tree Risk Assessor.  She is a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional holding both the Level 2 Advanced Training in Sustainable Design and Sustainable Installation. 

Her volunteer activities include committee work planning conferences with the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Arboriculture and a six-time cyclist to raise funds for tree research and education for the TREE Fund in the STIHL Tour des Trees.

Kristina also lives on the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River in Kempsville!
